Are you looking to increase student engagement in nonfiction reading and writing? Would you like to ensure that your students are prepared to write effectively in their careers and as citizens? This workshop designed for K-12 educators and administrators will introduce research-based based practices for increasing students’ comprehension and enjoyment of nonfiction texts and instill a love for writing in various real-world contexts. Activating students’ engagement in nonfiction through modeling using a wide range of mentor texts appropriate for elementary, middle school, and high school students will be explored. Using mentor texts from literature and nonfiction to help guide student writers to understand craft features and inspire them to write effectively for a variety of audiences will be prominent areas of focus.
