Using social media, cell phones, or in conversations with peers; students make threats to hurt themselves or others. How these situations are handled is vital to the safety and security of our students and the liability to the district.
Participants will recognize the importance of having a system that helps them proactively identify potential safety concerns before a crisis happens. The system provides the necessary documentation to guide decision making for students with IEP's, 504's and Behavior Intervention Plans. This system also assists with decision making to ensure districts are compliant with SB100 and restorative justice by providing resources for interventions and supports. At the conclusion of the course participants will apply the skills and information obtained by implementing the system through hands on activities and potential threat scenarios. They will be able to identify specific types of threats, how to develop a student safety assessment and management team, how to use scripted protocols to handle situations with fidelity, and establish a plan for the reintegration of the student(s) into the school environment.
