This child-centered program provides visual representations to phonemes. There are 46 hand cues and symbols that represent the English phonemes. Originally created by the mother of deaf children to learn to read, it is now being used as a kinesthetic approach for all students. Participants will learn and practice the hand signs and visual symbols during the first session. Participants will also be able to walk out of the workshop with enough knowledge to utilize the system in their classrooms the next day. practice sheets and a key will be provided to each participant. Day 2 follow up session will include additional hands-on-practice and activities to incorporate the system into the classroom. This workshop is highly recommended for RTI Intervention Teachers, Title/Reading Teachers, Pre-K through 3rd grade general and special education teachers and Speech Language Pathologists.
