Details

Oral health is an integral part of systemic well-being. There is a

plethora of evidence suggesting associations between periodontal

disease and various systemic conditions. The role of chronic

inflammation in oral and systemic health is constantly developing.

This course will provide current evidence of the interrelationships

between periodontal disease and systemic health with a focus on

clinical relevance in day-to-day practice.

Upon completion of the course/presentation, participants should be able to:

o Review and discuss systemic assessment of a dental patient.

o Discuss the role of chronic inflammation in systemic diseases and how this demonstrates a link between periodontal disease and systemic health

o Describe the association between periodontal disease and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular (CVA) diseases

o Explain the relationship between periodontal disease and diabetes

o Describe the association between periodontal disease and respiratory diseases

o Discuss the potential effect of periodontal disease on adverse pregnancy outcomes

o Describe the association between oral health and cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease

o Discuss the link between periodontal disease and risk for osteoporosis

o Describe the relationship between periodontal disease and obesity

o Discuss the association between periodontal disease and cancer
