About your Presenter

In 2000, Iwonka Eagle graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in human biology and began working in research at the Karmanos Cancer Center. Her interest in oral health was sparked shortly thereafter while working as a dental assistant and ultimately led her to pursue a career in dental hygiene. Iwonka completed her dental hygiene studies in 2004 at the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. Upon graduation she began working in clinical private practice. With a desire to further her education, Iwonka returned to the University of Michigan and in 2014 graduated with a Master of Science in Dental Hygiene degree. Iwonka currently is a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Dental Hygiene at the University of Michigan teaching in both the on campus and online degree completion programs. She also teaches Fundamentals to Periodontics and periodontal instrumentation to first year dental students, and serves as thesis chair for the University of Michigan graduate dental hygiene students.  In addition to being an educator, Iwonka is actively involved in clinical research and her current educational research interest is the utilization of OSCEs in dental hygiene education. She is also a strong advocate for interdisciplinary collaboration. Iwonka serves as a delegate to the Michigan Dental Hygienists’ Association (MDHA) and is the current MDHA Educational Chair. Iwonka is also a member of the Michigan Oral Health Coalition, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA), and the American Dental Education Association (ADEA).
