***FREE for WISD educators***
As educators, we are seeking to provide all children with learning environments that are equitable, accessible, and supportive. To support districts in this endeavor, the WISD invites districts across the county to participate in the 2019-2020 Responsive Teaching Institute. The institute provides educators with the opportunity to critically reflect on their instructional practices, as well as, school policies to identify practices or policies that promote inequity. The speakers for the 2019-2020 institute will focus on developing capacity with building principals and teacher leaders. The structure of the institute will support the development of small networks. Speakers have been invited to attend multiple sessions of the Responsive Teaching Institute, and additional support will be made available from the Achievement Initiatives team. It is our hope that the cohort model will allow educators more time to engage with the speakers and develop their critical consciousness about inequities that might be present within their learning environments. The dates for the 2019-2020 Responsive Teaching Institute are as follows: November 13, 2019, February 19, 2020, March 12, 2020, & May 6, 2020. The speakers for this institute include:
• Terry Flennaugh – Michigan State University
• Yolanda Sealy-Ruiz - Teachers College, Columbia University
• Aris Winger - Georgia Gwinnett College
• Debi Khasnabis – University of Michigan
Registration as well as, information about the speakers will be available September 1 at https://responsivemathematics.weebly.com. The Responsive Teaching Institute is scheduled to be held at Washtenaw ISD, 1819 S. Wagner, Ann Arbor, MI 48106. We hope to see you there!
