Bench Test Prep Course for Internationally Trained Dentists This is a course for international dentists who are considering applying to Advanced Placement Dental Programs in the United States and Canada. The University of Louisville Office of Continuing Education (ULSD) offers a Bench Test Preparatory Course for International Dentists who are considering applying to Advanced Placement Dental Programs in the United States and Canada. This course is designed for those who wish to receive an introduction to the ideal restorative, endodontic, and fixed prosthodontic guidelines. A Periodontal Module will also be presented.
The 3-day course involves didactic and hands-on sessions presented by the University of Louisville School of Dentistry Faculty. Each discipline will present material with expected guidelines. Participants will have the opportunity to practice procedures under instructor supervision in the ULSD Simulation Clinic and receive feedback.
A portfolio of the participant’s involvement will be made available for their use.
All courses offered in English. Interpreters will not be provided.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Operative Dentistry Instructor:Jennifer Barnes McCants, DDS, MSD Preparation and restoration of composites and amalgams on mannequin mounted dentoforms
Fixed Prosthodontics Instructor: Amirali Zandinejad, DMD, MS Preparation of an ideal crown on an anterior dentoform tooth with fabrication of an acrylic provisional
Endodontics Instructor: Joseph M. Morelli, DMD, MEd Perform a maxillary anterior tooth access, instrumentation and obturation on mannequin mounted dentoforms
Periodontics Instructor: John G. Virag, DMD, MS Complete a Periodontal Module Case Analysis in determining a periodontal diagnosis
PRE-REQUISITES (Must provide certified English translations of all documentation)
Clear, official, legible photocopies of your dental degree: BDS,DDS,DMD or equivalent, Certificate or Diploma
ABOUT THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR AND INSTRUCTORS:
Bench Test Preparatory Program Director Dr. Sasek earned her DMD degree from University of Louisville School of Dentistry and has been practicing in Louisville since 2005. Currently, most of her time is spent in clinical instruction at ULSD. She teaches pre-clinical dental anatomy and aesthetic dentistry. Dr. Sasek is a board member of the Kentucky Academy of General Dentistry and leads a student AGD Fellowship Track program at ULSD. Her professional interests lie in various voluntary dental services to the handicapped and under-privileged.
Operative Faculty Dr. McCants earned her DDS degree from Meharry Medical College and her MSD from Indiana University School of Dentistry. At ULSD she lectures in restorative dentistry and dental materials. In clinical instruction she specializes in operative competency evaluations given to students as they prepare for their licensure examinations. Her research work focuses on racial and ethnic oral health disparities. Dr. McCants also serves as a faculty advisor for Student National Dental Association.
Periodontics Faculty Dr. Morelli earned his DDS degree from Loyola School of Dentistry, Chicago, Illinois. He currently serves as Course Director ofJunior Clinical Endodnotics; Senior Clinical Endodontics; and Endontics II at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.
Dr. Zandinejad earned his dental degree from Azad University and his certificate in operative dentistry from Tehran university. He received his Masters degree in restorative dentistry from Sheffield University in United Kingdom. He completed his AEGD and prosthodontic residency Programs at University of Rochester, NY. At ULSD he teaches in various pre-clinical and clinical courses led by Oral Health and Rehabilitation Department. He is the course director for Advanced Concepts in Dentistry at the usinversity of Louisville. Dr. Zandinejad’s research focuses on ceramic material properties and applications. In 2007, he received the Excellence in Cosmetic Dentistry Award from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and received Dr. Jeff Shay memorial award as an outstanding teacher in 2013 from university of Louisville.

CANCELLATION POLICY: We reserve the right to cancel, modify date, revise course content, revise program faculty and activities. Pre-registered participants will be notified if a course is revised or cancelled, as warranted. In the event a course is cancelled, tuition will be refunded. All registrations are subject to the ULSD Cancellation Policy. This is a'limited'attendance course. ULSD must receive your written request for cancellation not later than four weeks prior to course start date to process a refund. A $75 processing fee will be deducted from the refund. Course Registrants who are a 'NO-SHOW' forfeit course tuition.
