This series of 1-hour sessions examines dental literature with regards to the strength of the information/evidence presented. Participants are trained to assess papers using a process that includes four components: PICO (patient population or problems, intervention, comparison, and outcome). The development of a collection of evidence-based dental (EBD) literature will be posted for use as a reference to the procedures used at University of Louisville School of Dentistry (ULSD).
At the completion of attending these sessions, the participant will be able to;
• Understand scientific and investigative nomenclature, e.g. odds ratio, systematic review, meta-analysis
• Assess dental literature using the PICO questions
• Stress a patient-centered approach in treatment decisions while understanding the most current scientific knowledge.
Outcome assessment: participants will be able to recommend appropriate EBD to colleagues and students that will be posted on the ULSD website.
