This course will present treatment options for implant restorations with a focus on the surgical and restorative phases. It will introduce the concept of multidisciplinary treatment planning necessary for successful and predictable implant restorations. Provisional restorations and their role in site development will be emphasized. The importance of lab communication will also be discussed. The hands-on sessions will familiarize participants with the surgical and prosthetic components utilized for implant placement and restoration.
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
• Understand treatment planning options available for implant restorations
• Fabricate a surgical template for implant placement
• Perform an esthetic risk analysis according to the SAC classification system
• Select the appropriate implant type for the desired restorative outcome
• Follow the proper protocol for implant placement surgery
• Become familiar with abutment selection procedures and different impression techniques
• Identify the indications for provisional implant restoration and their fabrication techniques
• Understand the importance of interdisciplinary treatment planning and the communication between the surgeon, restorative dentist and laboratory technician

About Ricardo Vidal, DDS, MS; Tamer Abdel-Azim, DDS
Dr. Vidal is an Assistant Professor of Periodontics at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He completed his MS degree and obtained his periodontics certificate at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Vidal maintains a private practice limited to periodontics and implant surgery. His research interests include esthetic periodontal and implant surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, Academy of Osseointegration, American Dental Association, Kentucky Dental Association and the Louisville Dental Society.
Dr. Abdel-Azim is an Assistant Professor of Prosthodontics at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He obtained his prosthodontics certificate at the University of Rochester. Dr. Abdel-Azim maintains a private practice limited to implant and esthetic dentistry. His research interests include implant and digital dentistry. He is a member of the American College of Prosthodontists, International Team for Implantology, American Dental Association, Kentucky Dental Association and the Louisville Dental Society.
