This presentation reviews the local anesthetics and techniques of administration commonly used by the presenter to obtain profound pulpal anesthesia. A review of the recent dental literature will be included to update course participants regarding the evidence-based efficacy of different anesthetics and types of primary and supplemental injections in obtaining pulpal anesthesia. Special consideration will be given to obtaining profound local anesthesia for the mandibular molar.

About Stephen J. Clark, DMD:
||Dr. Clark is a native of Central City, Kentucky and attended Western Kentucky University. He received his DMD degree in 1972 from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. After a general practice residency in the United States Public Health Service, he received his specialty certificate in endodontics in 1975 from the University of Kentucky. He then established his endodontic practice in Louisville, Kentucky where he practiced full-time for 23 years before joining the full-time faculty at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and practicing part-time. He currently serves there as Professor and Director of the Post-graduate endodontic program.
Dr. Clark is a member of the American Association of Endodontists and is one of the founding members of the Kentucky Association of Endodontists. He is a member of the American Dental Association and its component societies, the Southern Endodontic Study Group, the College of Diplomats of the American Board of Endodontics, and has served as a Director, Secretary, and President of the American Board of Endodontics.
