COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This program will provide an annual update on the concepts of OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogen Standard, CDC’s Dental Infection Control Guidelines and OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard.


COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of this Course, participants will have an understanding of:
Bloodborne Pathogens – A general explanation of the epidemiology and symptoms of bloodborne diseases and an explanation of the modes of transmission of bloodborne pathogens including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, Human Immunodeficiency Virus and tuberculosis.
• The principles of Infection Control including Standard Precautions and hand hygiene.
• The ULSD Exposure Control Plan and policies and procedures.
• Hazardous Communication Update.


About Patricia Bonasso Byrd, RDH, BS:

Patty Bonasso Byrd, RDH, BS is Director of Infection Control at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. She is also an adjunct faculty instructor in the Department of General Diagnosis and Oral Medicine. She is responsible for environmental health policy and compliance at ULSD. She received her Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene from University of Louisville in 1978 and completed her Bachelor’s Degree in 2002. Her career experience includes clinical, corporate education, consultant and in-office OSHA inspections, and lecturing on topics of Infection Control, OSHA, as well as many other topics related to dentistry. Her memberships include, the American Dental Hygiene Association, Kentucky Dental Hygiene Association (where she held several leadership positions), Louisville Dental Hygiene Association and Organization for Safety, Asepsis & Prevention (OSAP).  She practices one day week in dental hygiene. She would also like to thank Dr. Theresa Mayfield for her expertise in co –writing the course presented today.
