This is a course for the prospective dental student to experience dentistry as a profession before making a life-changing career commitment.

This is not a prerequisite nor does it guarantee admission to any dental school.

This course does not offer Dental Continuing Education credit.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This workshop offers an opportunity for the prospective dental student to experience dentistry as a profession before making a life-changing career commitment. It will introduce some of the basic concepts of the profession and provide participants with a hands-on experience to waxing a tooth to proper anatomical contour, cavity preparation & restoration to proper form and function, impression making, and dental model fabrication. During these two days spent in ULSD, participants will be able to familiarize themselves with the admissions process as well as have the opportunity to interact with current dental students and learn from their personal experiences.

 

This course is intended for:

  1. Rising 3rd and/or 4th year undergraduate pre-dental student
  2. Attending or graduated from accredited college or university
  3. Cumulative GPA 3.3 or higher

ABOUT THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR AND INSTRUCTORS:

 

“Introduction to Dentistry Workshop” Program Director Dr. Alma Ljaljevic-Tucakovic 

Dr. Ljaljevic-Tucakovic earned her DMD degree from University of Louisville School of Dentistry and has been practicing in Louisville since 2002. Currently, most of her time is spent in clinical instruction as a Team Leader in a comprehensive care clinic at ULSD. She is also a course director for Integrated Clinical Sciences I and II. Dr. Ljaljevic-Tucakovic maintains her private practice at University of Louisville Dental Associates.

 

Operative Faculty Dr. P. Gay Baughman

Dr. Baughman is an Associate Professor in the School of Dentistry. She graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1981 and founded a thriving dental practice in Fairdale, Kentucky. She then sold her practice in 2007 and began working at University of Louisville. Currently, she is a Team Leader and course director for Integrated Clinical Sciences I and II

 

Operative Faculty Dr. Marcelo Durski

Dr. Durski is an Assistant Professor with the Department of General Dentistry and Oral Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He has a Specialty Degree in Operative Dentistry, a Master's Degree in Operative Dentistry, a PhD Degree in Operative Dentistry, a Post Doc in Operative Dentistry. He is also the Director of the Restorative Dentistry Review course, a Member of the Brazilian Group of Operative Dentistry Professors, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, ADEA (American Dental Education Association) and IADR (International Association for Dental Research).
 

Operative Faculty Dr. Alia Eldairi 

Dr. Eldairi earned her D.D.S. degree from the University of Aleppo, Syria in 1998. She has been on faculty atthe University of Louisville since 2004. She currently serves as course director for Dental Anatomy andPre-Clinical Operative Dentistry courses at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry as well as coursedirector for the Introduction to Clinical Photography in Dentistry. Dr. Eldairi is currently a practicing dentist atthe University of Louisville Dental Associates.

CANCELLATION POLICY: We reserve the right to cancel, modify date, revise course content, revise program faculty and activities. Pre-registered participants will be notified if a course is revised or cancelled, as warranted. In the event a course is cancelled, tuition will be refunded. All registrations are subject to the ULSD Cancellation Policy. This is a 'limited' attendance course. ULSD must receive your written request for cancellation not later than four weeks prior to course start date to process a refund. A 30% processing fee will be deducted from all refunds. Course Registrants who are a 'NO-SHOW' forfeit course tuition.
