One day CCS examination preparation class to assist candidates for the AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist credential.



  • Review of official ICD 10-CM reporting guidelines, including structure of MS-DRG calculation, complications and comorbidities capture.
  • Understanding Case Mix structure and effects on hospital financial health.
  • Test preparation: Domain divisions and weights
  • Creating a study plan: Key topics; Determination of principal diagnosis, secondary diagnoses and symptoms of disease processes.
  • Using the ICD-10-PCS code set.
  • Importance of discharge status, present on admission indicator and hospital acquired conditions.
  • Issuing physician queries
  • OPPS structure, reporting facility modifiers
  • Test taking tips and case examples

Lunch is provided. Vending and cafeteria available onsite for breaks.


This registration does not confirm eligibility for attendees to sit for the AHIMA CCS exam. It is the individual's responsibility to write and qualify for exam eligibility.


Required resources to bring with you for the course are:


  • ICD-10-CM/PCS Code Sets
  • CPT
  • If bringing laptops, please have them fully charged as outlets are very limited in the auditorium.

This is not a basic or beginners coding level workshop and participants should be intermediate to advanced ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coders.





Dorothy Steed is an independent healthcare consultant and educator in Atlanta. She was a Medicare specialist for a large hospital system and a physician audit supervisor for another hospital system, with 42 years of experience in healthcare. Additionally, she is an instructor at a state technical college in Atlanta, provides auditing & training in both facility and physician services, and has been a speaker at several healthcare conferences. Ms. Steed has written articles for several medical publishers and served as a contributing author for medical billing and coding training material. She writes online courses, provides webinars and is an AHIMA certified ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer. Ms. Steed is credentialed in medical coding, medical billing, medical auditing, utilization management, healthcare management, healthcare compliance, clinical documentation improvement and patient accounts. She has served as a participator in multiple audits and investigations. She holds a bachelor's degree with a major in business and minors in both criminal justice and sociology and is an active member of American Health Information Management, American Academy of Professional Coders, Health Information Management Association and American Business Women's Association, and ACDIS.
