The presentation will highlight the most recent HIPAA policy changes. It will identify the most frequently identified HIPAA deficiencies found during HIPAA investigations. It also will provide some best practice tips and an overview of OCR's recent enforcement actions.

High quality data starts with accurate patient identification. Duplicate medical records, overlays, and fraud caused by identification issues can have a serious impact on patient safety, costs, and data integrity. However, the right biometric patient identification platform can prevent these problems. Learn more about how this is possible and where the technology can be utilized to deliver the most amount of value.

Bridgette Stephens, MBA, RHIA, CCS, CDIP, AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer

 

Bridgette is a HIM Professional with significant experience in acute care hospital coding and auditing. An ethical and talented coding professional with a strong emphasis in management, compliance, inpatient coding and reimbursement, teaching, medical record documentation standards, and electronic health record. She has a passion for continuing education in our ever-changing healthcare environment. In the past 15 years, she has worked as an independent consultant and with several consulting firms. She has extensive experience in all types of IP auditing with well-rounded MS-DRG and APR-DRG methodology knowledge. Bridgette is knowledgeable about SOI, ROM, HAC, PSI and how all affects hospital reimbursements. She has performed extensive verbal and written coder feedback. Bridgette has performed RAC reviews in the past, giving the documentation write-up necessary for claim denial letters. She has experience on many different EMRs and encoders over the years.

 

 

Michael Trader

 

Michael is is the co-founder of RightPatient, the #1 cloud biometric patient identity platform for healthcare. As a serial entrepreneur with 20 years of experience in cloud software, biometrics technology, and healthcare, Michael has co-founded 5 tech companies, advised dozens of Fortune 1000 companies, traveled to more than 30 countries, and is a frequent presenter at various healthcare symposiums. At RightPatient, Michael is responsible for overseeing business development, government outreach, and for providing senior leadership on business and policy issues. Michael holds a BS degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Vermont where he graduated with honors.

 

 

Sarah West, JD, MA, CFE

 

Sarah West is an investigator with US Department of Health and Human Services in the Office for Civil Rights in the Southeast Region. She responds to HIPAA complainants and conducts HIPAA breach investigations and compliance reviews. She is also responsible for responding to complaints submitted by individuals who feel they have been discriminated against by an individual or entity that receives federal financial assistance from HHS on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, age, sex and in limited circumstances religion. She attended law school at Georgia State University's College of Law, obtained a masters of arts in bioethics from Case Western Reserve University, and completed a bachelor's in arts at Furman University, in Greenville, South Carolina. She is a certified fraud examiner, certified in applied data analytics, and she currently serves as a court appointed special advocate for children in the foster care system in DeKalb County Georgia. She is also currently enrolled in a medical billing and coding training program.
