Living Life in Retirement Session 2

Feeling stuck in retirement? Or overwhelmed by the thought of making the leap from a career? Maybe you've put retirement on a higher pedestal than it deserves.  After all, you've successfully navigated major life transitions before.  Remember when you retired from high school?

This three week course is designed to be a structured pause between 24/7 full contact employment and the retirement you've dreamed of having. This is NOT a financial planning course. This is an opportunity for you to customize a plan for your life — guided by two people with the experience and resources to help you thoughtfully consider and apply a new definition of retirement.

We have the tools to help you, so what are you waiting for? Your best phase of life is on the horizon. All it takes is for you to decide to take control of what comes next

Instructor: Lisa Larson; Steve Wilson

Lisa Grady Larson is the happy wife of J. Derek Larson and proud mother of three delightful children. Having recently transitioned from a 15-year career as a print media reporter into the world of freelance writing, Lisa knows first-hand just how valuable the concepts of next can be regardless of one’s age or stage of life. Lisa spent most of her formative years in Cedar City, Utah, while enjoying fantastic family vacations that broadened her view of the world. Her passions include music, theater, reading, travel, and public speaking. She graduated from Southern Utah University with a degree in public relations and advertising, but soon found her passion for writing and natural curiosity was a perfect fit for the life of a feature reporter. Her journalism career opened doors to myriad opportunities — from skydiving to extreme hiking — and was the catalyst for bringing Lisa and Steve together to work on the next book project. Whether considering life after career or plotting to prepare for other key transitions, Lisa does her best to live by her motto: You’re on the ride, you might as well open your eyes and enjoy every moment.

L. Steven Wilson was born and raised in southern California. He was introduced to baseball by his grandfather and his Uncle Brent and was an All League selection twice from Ganesha High School in Pomona, California. His senior year he received the league’s Most Outstanding Player award and earned a scholarship to Brigham Young University. Steve lived for two years on the Navajo Indian Reservation before receiving a baccalaureate degree in sociology. He has a Masters degree in Public Administration/Health Care emphasis from Brigham Young University and was admitted to the University of Iowa in Hospital & Health Services Administration doctoral program. Steve is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and was recognized with an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Dixie State University, St. George, Utah for contributions advancing community health. After a 30-year career he transitioned to retirement at age 55. He currently enjoys helping individuals prepare for life in retirement through public speaking and writing on the subject. Retirement has afforded Steve an outlet for his creative energy through a number of entrepreneurial ventures including real estate broker, owner of a clinic serving the needs of seniors, partner in several real estate projects and as a mentor to young single adults in his church. He remains active in the community as a member of the Foundation for Washington County Schools, the University of Utah Medical Center Foundation and an ambassador for the St. George Chamber of Commerce. Steve and his wife Cathy are parents to four daughters and two sons, each accomplished in their own pursuits and together are a powerful force for good in the world. Steve and Cathy are grandparents to 15 of the brightest and best looking kids you’re ever likely to meet…in his unbiased opinion.
