Policies and General Information
This course is suitable for all dental professionals, but has been designed to satisfy the public health requirement for Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner licensure in PA
Overview:
This course will begin with an overview of the current state of dental public health in the state of Pennsylvania, including areas of unmet need, oral health data, state workforce surveys, the State Oral Health Plan, and disparities in access to care.
Particular emphasis will be placed on current issues related to the utilization of the Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner (PHDHP) in PA, and the role PHDHPs can play in meeting unmet needs.
Another presentation will update participants on current trends and evidence-based guidelines in the diagnosis, staging and management of caries via a caries management pathway. It is challenging for clinicians to keep up to date with the new thinking and new evidence about assessing caries, its activity and its control.
Finally, the presentation will focus on medical-dental integration and a “a team-based approach to the systemic quid quo pro.” It will focus on the benefits of oral health integration and successful processes in care coordination, as well as the important role that oral health prevention has on overall health.

Upon completion of the course, participants will:

Executive Director, PA Coalition for Oral Health
Anchal Malik, BDS, MHA
Assistant Professor, Department of Dental Public Health
