Details

Target Audience: NTDSE Mentees and all other educators
This session will discuss how Structured Teaching postulates four essential mechanisms, some of which have empirical support, although more refined research is needed: (a) structure environment and activities in ways that are understandable to the individual; (b) use individuals’ strengths/interest in visual skills/details to supplement ewaker skills; © use individuals’ interests to engage in learning; and (d) support self-initiated use of meaningful communication. There are five elements of Structured Teaching that build on one another, and all emphasize the importance of predictability and flexible routines in the classroom setting: 1) physical structure, 2) schedules, 3) work systems, 4) routines and 5) visual strategies and visual structure of materials.
