Emily M. Homer, MA, CCC-SLP, Consultant, Swallowing and Feeding in the Schools. Coordinator of the Speech-Language-Hearing Therapy Program in St. Tammany Parish Public Schools in Louisiana for many years where she was instrumental in starting a swallowing and feeding team procedure. She is the 1999 recipient of the Louis M. DiCarlo Award for the establishment of an interdisciplinary dysphagia team in her school district. Since the procedure was first established, St.Tammany Parish Schools have successfully implemented the Students Eat Safely: Follow the Forms procedure. This procedure has since been shared and subsequently implemented in districts throughout the country! The majority of her 40 years in the field of speech-language pathology have been in the public school setting. She has presented nationally at ASHA conventions, ASHA Schools conferences, and ASHA teleconferences. Ms. Homer has recently published a book, Management of Swallowing and Feeding Disorders in Schools by Plural Publishing, as well as, articles on dysphagia in schools in Language, Speech and Hearing Services in the SchoolsSeminars in Speech and LanguageThe Communication Disorders Casebook: Learning by Example; and Survival Guide for School-Based Speech-Language Pathologists, and Division 13 and 16 newsletters. She has also been featured in the ASHA Leader and Advance magazine. Additionally, Ms. Homer served as the chairman of ASHA’s working committee on dysphagia in the schools.

Target Audience: Team Members supporting feeding needs of students
This course is intended to provide school system team members, including school-based SLPs, OTs, nurses and classroom staff, with the information necessary to work with students in their district with swallowing and feeding disorders. The session will address the legal concerns of SLPs in the schools, offer justifications for swallowing and feeding treatment in the schools, and provide the tools necessary for building a team within their school system and securing system approval. The session will also provide information related to service delivery, therapeutic intervention, linking medical teams and school teams and working closely with parents and caregivers.

Registration is free of charge for NTDSE staff (D807) and all members staff (Districts 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 73.5 and 74).
Registration is $200 for the training for non-NTDSE and non-member district staff.

- 6 ISBE Clock Hours (CPDUs) will be provided for all registrants
- .6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be provided for each day of the training for Speech-Language Pathologists and Social Workers.

3) Complete the Event Evaluation that will be sent via email within 1 week after the event.
4) Upon completion of the evaluation, your Certificate of Attendance (CEUs/CPDUs) will be automatically generated and sent via email.
