Program Overview

The International Dentist Bootcamp is a program designed to allow the participants to develop a successful dental career in the U.S. Fostering a successful career involves recognizing the challenges and opportunities that foreign trained dentist have in the American dental education model and the value of preparation and networking in the process.

 

Participants of this program will receive training in the step-by-step process of the application to American dental schools for Advance Standing and Specialty programs. During the process, the participants will join and build a networking community with program directors and other successful dental practitioners in the U.S.

Learning Objectives

The International Dentist Bootcamp Program provides a framework for foreign trained dentist to understand the pathways to obtaining a dental license or study a specialty program in the U.S. Using an interactive framework this program will create opportunities for internationally trained dentists to virtually engage and network with the dental community in the U.S.

 

By the end of the Bootcamp, participants will be able to:

 

  • understand the American dental education model, including recognizing the differences between predoctoral and postdoctoral programs
  • synthesize the main steps in the application process for a residency or advanced standing program and the difference between NBDE and the INDBE
  • design a compemtitive Curriculum Vitae, personal statement, and a career action plan
  • network with program directors, successful international dentists practicing in the U.S. and other foreign students currently enrolled in U.S. programs

Target Audience

International Trained Dentists, who are either interested in:

• Pursuing advanced educational programs in the United States and/or

• Obtaining dental licensing in the United States

 

*This course is in English, so individual who register should be proficient in English


Program Directors

GABRIELA LAGRECA, DDS, FACP, Dr. Gabriela Lagreca is an international trained dentist herself. She obtained her DDS at the UCV (Universidad Central de Venezuela) in 2009. In 2012, she completed an Implant Fellowship Program in the Department of OMFS at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She received her certificate in Prosthodontics in 2015 and further became one of the less than 50 fellows of the American Board of Prosthodontics in Massachusetts. Since 2015, Dr. Lagreca holds an Assistant Professor appointment in the Postgraduate of Prosthodontics as TUSDM, where she teaches in classroom, clinical and preclinical prosthodontics to postdoctoral residents. Also, she was appointment Faculty Representative for the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) TUSDM Chapter and Director of the Academic Dental Career Fellowship Program (ADEA-ADCFP) where, over one year, selected dental students and residents explore the three pillars of academic careers: teaching, educational research, and service, via direct mentorship. As a personal project, Dr. Lagreca launched The International Dentist Podcast in October of 2020. Every week, she brings meaningful conversations with educators, leaders, private practitioners, and business owners who shared their experiences and learnings of the career paths you can develop in the United States and abroad as a foreign dentist. IRINA F. DRAGAN DMD, DDS, MS.,  Assistant Professor and Director of Faculty Education and Instructional Development, Dr. Irina Dragan is an international trained dentist herself. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She received her DDS from Carol Davila University (Bucharest, Romania) and her DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) (Boston, USA). She obtained her postgraduate training at New York University College of Dentistry (advanced training in comprehensive care and aesthetic dentistry) and TUSDM (periodontology and master of science). As a dental student she served as the President of the European Dental Students' Association and as a resident, sher served as the ADEA Council of Students, Residents, and Fellows national representation. her efforts have  been recognized in 2014 with the ADEA/AADR Academic Dental Career Fellowship, 2015 ADEA Emerging Academic Leaders Program, 20216 AAP Foundation Fellowship to attend Institute for Teaching and Learning Program, 2018 AAP Foundation Tarrson Award and with the 2016 ADEA Chair of the Board Directors (Presidential) Citation. She is the recipient of the 2019 TUSDM Provost's Award for Outstanding Teaching and Service. She has published more than 25 papers, authored textbooks, and lectured worldwide. Dr. Dragan maintains a private practice limited to periodontology and implant dentistry at Brookline Periodontal Associates.

Refund Policy: Full tuition refund or credit will be given for cancellations received at least two weeks prior to the course start date. Refunds or tuition credit will not be given after that time or to no-shows.

 

Wait List Policy: If a CE course obtains enough registrations where a wait list is established, the CE office will notify individuals with unpaid registration balances and ask them to pay their balance to secure their place in the course. If payment is not made to secure their place, the CE office has the right to offer that place to a paying individual on the wait list.
