Function Based Thinking is a systematic way of thinking about function and its role in changing student behavior. By using this systematic approach, participants will be able to define problem behaviors in the pre-school setting to select interventions that can match the function of that particular behavior. This professional learning series will be presented in two parts (2 days). During the first session (part 1), participants will identify the A-B-Cs of behavior to determine the function of specific behaviors. In the second session (part 2), participants will explore the function-based process to select strategies that will respond to challenging behavior as it applies to pre-school aged children. This professional learning session will address both; the importance of identifying the function of behavior, and the significant role adults can play in the identification process. Intended Audience: CPSE Administrators, DECE Support Staff (School Facing Coaches), School Administrators, School Psychologists, General Education Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Paraprofessionals any others interested.
