Virtually strengthen and expand your professional network founded in the Beginning Teacher Community in Year One. Use reflection techniques to assess your first year of practice to identify learning targets for improvement and growth. Dive deeper into the art and science of teaching and learning, while fostering precision within your pedagogical practice. Experience best practice techniques through mentorship building, book club participation, active learning loops, and group collaboration. Asynchronous learning opportunities will be offered for each session if participants are unable to join each live virtual session. This series will provide 22 hours toward your required New Teacher Professional Development.

Amy Niklasch is a 21 year veteran and sixth grade teacher at Reeths-Puffer Intermediate School. Her current work includes an embedded and culturally responsive literacy approach to Social Studies and English-Language Arts education. She currently mentors new teachers, is the lead facilitator of MAISD’s Beginning Teacher Community, develops and writes creative curriculum, and instructs on the pedagogy of the 21st century educator. Amy has earned a Master's of Literacy degree from Western Michigan University and is a certified reading specialist. .
