Please join us for the Early Literacy Coaching Kick-Off. It is highly encouraged that teams attend this event together. Teams will spend a portion of the evening creating working agreements and a common goal focused around the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Cancellations must be made in writing to registrar@muskegonisd.org no later than seven (7) days prior to the start date of the workshop. Phone cancellations are not accepted. 'No shows' will be charged the full registration amount.

Inclement Weather Policy

In case of inclement weather, all events at the MAISD North Building will continue as scheduled unless the MAISD itself is closed. An announcement would be made through local media outlets, as well as the MAISD Facebook and the @MAISD Twitter, if the MAISD were to close due to weather.

In the event of a two-hour delay at the MAISD North Building:

  • Events beginning at 10:00 am or later will continue as scheduled.

  • Full-day events (those lasting at least five hours) scheduled to begin before 10:00 am will begin at 10:15 am.

  • Partial-day events beginning before 10:00 am will be canceled.

Exceptions to this policy will be communicated to participants via email at least 12 hours in advance of expected inclement weather.

Katie Taber was a classroom teacher before transitioning to the ISD for a Coaching role. Currently Katie is one of the Early Literacy Coaches at the Muskegon Area ISD. This is Katie’s third year at the ISD. Over the last two years, Katie has been able to support several Kindergarten through third grade teachers around the Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy. Katie completed her undergraduate work from Western Michigan University and earned a Master's in Educational Leadership from Baker College.

Lori Doriot was a classroom teacher and instructional coach for 26 years before coming to the MAISD. Lori has a passion for early literacy and she has taught Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. Lori is one of the Literacy Coaches serving educators within our county.

Michelle WahlbergMichelle Wahlberg was a classroom teacher for twenty years before transitioning to a coaching role. Her teaching has focused around Early Childhood and she has taught grades Kindergarten, first, and second. She has served on many leadership teams and is an advocate for Place-Based Education. Currently, Michelle is one of the Early Literacy Coaches at the Muskegon Area ISD and serves K-3 educators across county. Michelle completed her undergraduate work and her Masters of Arts degree at Western Michigan University.
