This series will focus on using evidence-based practices in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The general content of these sessions will be consolidated modules from START (STatewide Autism Resources & Training Project) and will focus on foundational information about ASD, behavioral supports and educational strategies. This training is open to all educators: special and general education teachers, paraprofessionals, ancillary staff, and administrators.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Cancellations must be made in writing to no later than seven (7) days prior to the start date of the workshop. Phone cancellations are not accepted. 'No shows' will be charged the full registration amount.

Inclement Weather Policy

In case of inclement weather, all events at the MAISD North Building will continue as scheduled unless the MAISD itself is closed. An announcement would be made through local media outlets, as well as the MAISD Facebook and the @MAISD Twitter, if the MAISD were to close due to weather.

In the event of a two-hour delay at the MAISD North Building:

  • Events beginning at 10:00 am or later will continue as scheduled.

  • Full-day events (those lasting at least five hours) scheduled to begin before 10:00 am will begin at 10:15 am.

  • Partial-day events beginning before 10:00 am will be canceled.

Exceptions to this policy will be communicated to participants via email at least 12 hours in advance of expected inclement weather.

Lisa BaileyLisa Bailey is an Autism Spectrum Disorder Consultant for the MAISD. As a classroom teacher for over 12 years, she has taught in a kindergarten classroom, a self-contained Moderately Cognitively Impaired kindergarten, first, and second grade classroom, Early Childhood Special Education classroom, and provided Infant-Toddler services in homes and communities. Lisa completed her undergraduate work at Alma College, earned her Master’s in Early Childhood Developmental Delays at Grand Valley State University, and completed her Autism Endorsement at Michigan State University.

Missy Post is an Autism Spectrum Disorder Consultant at the MAISD. Prior to this role, she was a special education teacher at Fruitport Community Schools. Missy has taught at the elementary and secondary level, worked in ASD, SXI, MOCI, co-taught and general education classrooms, along with some work with Early On. She earned both her Bachelor's degree and her M.A., Ed from Central Michigan University. Missy provides coaching support to local district teams and training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, START, and Mindfulness.
