Event Name: Reconciliation and First Eucharist Sacrament Preparation 2019

As a continuation of the Archdiocese of Atlanta requirement for 2 years of preparation to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist, this will truly be an exciting year for your child(ren).

1. (Oct - Jan) Reconciliation is a family- and parish- centered program. We all are aware of how much forgiving is a part of daily family life!

As a continuing part of the parish-centered program, a required parent meeting is scheduled for one of three different dates in October.

Handouts, supplemental texts, and issues relating to faith preparation of the children and the logistics for the First Reconciliation Celebration on January 12th will be given. This time is designed to help parents experience this wonderful sacrament preparation time to the fullest with their child.

A First Reconciliation Prayer Service will be celebrated on Saturday, January 12th, 2019 at 9:30 am.

“What begins in the family continues in the penitential life and liturgy of the Church. We begin at an early age to teach the children about Advent and Lent – the two great seasons of reconciliation in the Church year. Gradually they begin to participate in the penitential rites of the Eucharist. At the beginning of each Mass, we join with all present to ask God to forgive us. We offer each other the sign of peace, asking to be reconciled with others. These liturgical experiences can help guide children to this Sacrament of “healing”.”

2. (Feb - May) First Eucharist Now we begin the final months of preparation for receiving First Holy Communion. Children should be attending Sunday Mass weekly.

As a continuing part of the parish-centered program, a required parent meeting is scheduled for one of three different dates in February.

At this meeting you will receive:
- Handouts, supplemental texts, and issues relating to faith preparation of the children and the logistics for the First Communion Masses on Mother’s Day Weekend will be given.
- Gift catalogs and/or a Catholic Bookstore will be on site at the meetings to show you items you may wish to purchase, if you choose.
- Mass time for your child will be confirmed on that meeting day!
