Periodontal Update for the Hygiene Team
There is emerging evidence to support the existence of a two-way relationship between some systemic diseases and periodontitis, with systemic inflammation increasing the risk for periodontitis, and periodontal inflammation negatively affecting systemic health. Understanding of this relationship and incorporating strategies for chair side screening and making appropriate referrals and management of these patients will help dental care providers to better address patients oral and overall health and will also strengthen the role of dental hygienist as an integral component of the interdisciplinary healthcare.

A Guide to Treating Anterior Discolorations: A Hands-on Experience
This course will focus on resin infiltration. We will provide 2 hours of lecture content to explain how to diagnose and treat these lesions. Then we will have a small group hands-on experience to go over the material and practice techniques for isolating the teeth prior to treatment (this can be the hardest part until you become comfortable doing it). And then we will have an over the shoulder treatment experience on a live patient. Finally, we will leave you with a starter kit with all the tools you will need to perform your first case (part of course tuition). Our goal is to have you ready to treat your first case as soon as you finish the course.

Infiltration Anesthesia for Dental Hygiene Procedure
This four-day course will offer training for Alabama hygienists to provide local anesthesia (infiltration) administration to the dental patient. With 40 hours of CE training under the guidance of Dr. Patrick Louis, and conforming to the AL State Board of Dental Examiners regulations, this course will present the participant with the mechanics to provide pain management. As with any hands-on training course, the participant should realize that competency and proficiency requires repeated administration and periodic self-reeducation.
