Dr. Sims will review the common opioids of abuse and those drugs’ effects on oral health and dental treatment. Minimally Invasive Restorations: Evidence Based option for Non-Surgical Treatment of Dental Caries
Can dental caries be successfully treated without cutting a tooth? Is there evidence to support the use of fluorides, silver diamine fluoride (SDF) or amorphous calcium phosphate? In this course, we will explore these recommendations, look at protocols for using SDF and introduce the idea of SMART restorations.

Demystifying the All-Ceramics and Veneers - a Hands-On Course from Preparation to Cementation
This one-day hands-on course is divided into two portions. The lecture portion will discuss the indications, contraindications and tooth preparation designs for all-ceramics and veneers. The technique portion provides hands-on practice in four different veneer preparations and one anterior all-ceramic preparation on dentoform teeth. Participants will receive (1) a detail color step-by-step preparation guide for all-ceramic and veneer, (2) a Brasseler all-ceramic and veneer preparation bur kit, (3) one set of 3D printed model with removable ideal tooth preparation dies which you can bring home as office demonstration model.

Making Temporaries - A Hands-On Course for Auxiliary
This one-day course provides current information in fabricating the provisional restoration for dental auxiliaries. Single anterior and posterior provisional restorations utilizing prefabricated crowns and matrix techniques will be reviewed. More advanced techniques such as multiple unit and veneer provisional restorations will be covered in lecture and in the technical, hands-on portion.

Infiltration Anesthesia for Dental Hygiene Procedures
This four-day course will offer training for Alabama hygienists to provide local anesthesia (infiltration) administration to the dental patient. With 40 hours of CE training under the guidance of Dr. Patrick Louis, and conforming to the AL State Board of Dental Examiners regulations, this course will present the participant with the mechanics to provide pain management. As with any hands-on training course, the participant should realize that competency and proficiency requires repeated administration and periodic self-reeducation.

Recommendations for Antibiotic Prescribing and Treating Nausea and Vomiting
Dr. Sims will review common pathogens found in the oral cavity associated with particular oral infections and review antibiotic choices for the treatment of those pathogens associated with those infections. Dr. Sims will provide antibiotic options for patients who are allergic to certain antibiotics. She will review adverse effects and drug interactions for recommended antibiotics.
